What is Mindful Movement

When you first hear about the concept of mindful movement, you might think that you do it all the time. However, many people don’t practice mindful movement at all, despite the fact there are many benefits to it.

Mindful movement is the practice of executing certain movements while being very aware of how your body responds to them. If you lean forward, what happens to your breathing? How does your back feel? Do you feel like you’re starting to lose balance? You should be able to feel certain muscles being put under pressure, and the longer you hold the position or the further you lean forward, you’ll feel the strain increase.

What are common types of mindful movement?

The most popular example that comes to mind when mindful movement is described to somebody is yoga. In general, yoga consists of slow and steady movements that are meant to enhance the flexibility and strength of your body and bones, while also helping you to relax and pay close attention to what your body is doing. However, while the movements themselves might be enough to help you tone up, lose weight and become more flexible, you’ll get even more out of your sessions if you practice mindful movement too.

However, after a while, you will notice improved concentration throughout many areas of your life. It’s also important to note that mindful movement can be much more effective if you remove any distractions, such as TV or upbeat music.

How can you get involved with mindfulness movement?

While you can practice mindfulness with anything that you do, there are certain activities that are more conducive to mindfulness. Among these are yoga and meditation techniques, but you can also do less conventional methods, such as swimming slowly or lifting weights.
